Surround Speaker

Ultra Surround Speaker

A speaker placed in one of the surround positions of a surround-sound system. These positions include the sides and back of the listening area. Surround speakers are often smaller than the front speakers; in many cases, the front speakers are floor standing and the surround speakers are bookshelf models. Surround speakers can also be in-wall or in-ceiling speakers.

In many systems, the side-surround speakers include angled drivers that fire both forward and backward. This creates a large soundfield that envelops listeners with the surround effects. The SVS Ultra Surround is such a speaker, and it also allows the front- and back-firing drivers to act as separate speakers in a 7.1 surround-sound system.
